This past Sunday Abby and I had the oppertunity to meet with hundreds of Intel ISEF finalists at the downtown Sheraton here in Phoenix. We exchanged pins, met new people from all different countries, and made lots of new friends. Here are some of the highlights:
Above are Abby Tillman (finalist), Jesseca Kusher (finalist), Chad Erturk (student observer), Ana & Rachel (two other finalists, both from South Carolina) and our state flag. 🙂
Here Abby and I stand with a team finalist from Florida, who not only has an awesome hat– but also handed out shells instead of pins. Now that was cool.
Here I am with Jack Andraka, the winner of last year’s Intel ISEF for his work on developing and producing a new more effective and economic form of pancreatic cancer indicator test. It meant a lot to be able to meet him, and he seems like a pretty cool guy. He and a team of other teenagers from ISEF are actually working against teams of adults in an X-prize competition.
Here I am posing with my newfound friends from all over the US. We were trying to rival the chants and cheering from the Brazilians, but with no avail. Those Brazilians know how to party, that’s for sure.
Overall it was TONS of fun. The food was great, the Sheraton was beautiful, and the company divine. I loved being able to meet so many talented young minds from all over the world in such a casual, laid back setting. We definitely made many new friends that we will stay in touch with for years to come.
